There are three primary ways families can access and afford this essential support.

1. Medicare Part B (Typically Covers 80%)

For many patients, Medicare Part B is the primary payer for palliative care services. Medicare Part B generally covers:

• Physician or nurse practitioner visits
• Symptom management
• Care coordination
• Certain therapies and assessments

This makes palliative care accessible for many older adults and those living with disabilities.

 2. Private Insurance

Most private insurance plans — including employer-based plans and marketplace policies — offer coverage for palliative care services. Coverage varies, but often includes:

• Specialist consultations
• Nursing support
• Social work services
• Symptom and medication management

Because palliative care focuses on improving quality of life and reducing hospitalizations, many insurers recognize its value and include it as part of comprehensive care.
