What are the Different Levels of Hospice Care?
At Tillery Compassionate Care, we have been a cornerstone of this community for 44 years. Our mission is to spark inspiration, hope, and peace, enabling individuals with serious illnesses to embrace their spirit of life. As a respected resource for serious illness care, we want to help you navigate the four levels of hospice care as defined by medicare.gov.
Every patient’s journey is unique, and these levels ensure that care is always aligned with what matters most to the patient and their family.
What Are the Different Levels of Hospice Care and What Do They Mean?
1. Routine Home Care
This is the most common level of hospice care. It is provided for patients who are generally stable and whose symptoms, such as pain or nausea, are adequately controlled. This specialized care is usually provided in the comfort of your own home.
2. Continuous Home Care
For short-term management of out-of-control pain or symptoms during a crisis-like situation, continuous home care provides intensive support. This level is typically provided in the home to stabilize the patient during a difficult period.
3. General Inpatient Care
If symptoms cannot be managed effectively at home during a crisis, general inpatient care offers intensive management in an inpatient setting, such as a hospital or a skilled nursing facility.
4. Respite Care
Respite care is a temporary level of care designed to give a family member or friend who is the primary caregiver a needed break. This level is tied to the caregiver’s needs rather than the patient’s symptoms and can be provided in a nursing home or hospital.
