Old North State Club Celebrates 23 Years of Compassion with Record-Breaking Support
May 13, 2026 (ALBEMARLE, NC) – The women of the Old North State Club recently hosted their annual dinner to benefit Tillery Compassionate Care (TCC), marking more than two decades of dedicated partnership. The event, held on Saturday, April 25, 2026, was a resounding success, raising nearly $70,000 for the nonprofit organization. This monumental contribution brings the group’s 23-year fundraising total to over $525,000.

The evening began with a cocktail reception at the clubhouse, followed by intimate dinners hosted in various member homes throughout the community. This year’s event was chaired by Karen Mitchell, who opened the evening with heartfelt gratitude for the individuals and teams who made the night possible.
“We are so thankful for the continued partnership with the golf course, Chef Kris and his team, and all of our wonderful hosts who opened their homes for this cause,” said Mitchell. She also extended a special thank you to the Ladies of the Study Club, praising their “talents, time, and recipes,” as well as their support of other vital events like the Holiday Tea and the Galentine’s Bunco Luncheon.

The committee expressed its deep appreciation for the entire Old North State Community, thanking them for their attendance, donations, and ongoing efforts to strengthen the bond with TCC.
Committee members include Karen Mitchell, Breon Allen (co-chair & next year’s chair), Lou Anne Alexander, Emily Breece, Deborah Griffin, Sarah Marineau, Heather Walker, and Debbie Winters.
These funds are critical to Tillery Compassionate Care’s mission to “spark inspiration, hope, and peace enabling individuals with serious illness to embrace their spirit of life.” As a locally governed 501(c)3 nonprofit, TCC relies on community-powered funding to ensure that its standard of care remains available to everyone in the region.
“Our philosophy is that patients’ needs always come first,” said Lori Thayer, CEO of Tillery Compassionate Care. “Fundraisers like the Old North State dinner allow our development team to secure the resources necessary to ensure that no one is denied care due to inability to pay. We are deeply grateful for this 23-year legacy of support that helps us set the standard for optimal patient and family experiences.”
Tillery Compassionate Care has served more than 8,400 residents since 1981, providing not only medical care but also the spiritual, emotional, and psychological support that families need most during life’s most delicate chapters.
